Recently, while at an all-day live broadcast, Glen snuck out with John Assaraf for a quick video interview where John shared some powerful insights for those aspiring to be an abundant entrepreneur – and it revolves around learning that we don’t have to do it all ourselves.
Many of you will recognize John by name as one of the leaders in the personal development field. But those that don’t might still recognize his face from his appearance in the movie, The Secret, along with his frequent TV appearance on shows like Larry King Live and The Ellen Show.

[The Interview]
Glen: We talk a lot in our community about “What is it to be an Abundant Entrepreneur.” What would be your take on that?
John: What comes to my mind is “unlimited resources.” So, when you think of abundance it means there is no lack. In the world that I live in – in my own perception or paradigm of the world – there is no lack. There’s no lack of how-to, there’s no lack of tools, resources, people, money, etc. and that means that if you operate from that place… abundance means that EVERYTHING is here for you.
And the questions that I always ask myself are:
- Who do i need to connect with?
- What do I need to think?
- What do I need to feel?
- What do I need to learn?
- And then GO AND FIND IT.
Because it’s there. It’s a matter of realizing there’s no lack of anything. And if that’s the state that you’re in, then it’s just a matter of becoming curious and becoming resourceful, regardless of your resources.
Glen: Right, I talk about that a lot — one of the biggest resources you can have is a mentor (or mentors.) AND you’ve got to have a big goal. You’ve got to know where you’re going.
John: Yes, there are fundamental principles that, if you’re a student of success, and a student of achievement then the principles never change. It’s kind of like air: it doesn’t make a difference where you are in the world – it may be different quality air, but the components of it are the same. And the same is true when you think about abundance and success and achievement. The fundamentals are the fundamentals.
Glen: Awesome. So, I know that you are versed in all types of businesses, but for anyone who is starting, or just recently started, with an online business … what would be a couple of tips or something that they could really focus on and do Right Now. To get them moving or keep them going or get them past that first hurdle – cause as we know, taking that first step and getting into the flow is so important.
John: I think the first thing is to get absolutely committed to the outcome that you WILL achieve. So, committed means no excuses, no stories, no blame, shame, guilt, embarrassment that comes along with why people set goals and don’t achieve them. Make a commitment to an outcome. That’s number one. Take a look at that outcome every single day. One, two, three, four times a day. And just see yourself at that outcome.
Now, why do you want to do that? The answer is because you want to start training your consciousness – you want to start training every cell of your body to focus on that outcome.
That’s step number one. Step number two is ask yourself a question.
I’ve ‘cheated’ my way to success and here’s what I mean by that… there is very little that I have invented. I have just been a fabulous copycat of people who have already invested 10, 20, 30, 40 years (or maybe more) applying what works and what doesn’t work. And then they teach in their books, their programs, their mentor-ship, their coaching — and I learned a long time ago that it pays to know where to buy specialized knowledge. And so I pay for knowledge. But not just ANY kind of knowledge. I pay for the knowledge of people who have already achieved what I want to achieve. And once I master their blueprint, then and only then, do I start to innovate.
And so, I learn from you, you learn from me, we’re both testing and trying stuff out, so when you tell me, “John, do this, this and this.” I don’t have to say, “Glen, tell me about the 100 hours that you went through to come up with that conclusion.” I simply know… Awesome. Great. Thank you. Done.
And so, stop trying to figure it out. There is nothing in your health, in spiritual growth, in wealth, in growing your internet business, in your relationship, in anything that anybody has to figure out on their own. Zero. Nothing. And so why not start with a blueprint? And then say, ‘You know what? I want to detour right, or I want to detour left.‘ But start with a blueprint. THEN get innovative.
Glen: I like getting the fundamentals down. Also when you talked earlier [in your presentation] about being Interested, or being Committed… I love that. I’ve never really thought of it like that. But I love your explanation on that.
John: It changed my life. It. Changed. My. Life. One question from one mentor who, at the time… this gentleman’s name was Aaron Brown – he was in his fifties – I was nineteen or twenty years old. And he wanted to mentor me because he saw something in me that I didn’t see then. And he said, “The only way I will mentor you is if you answer this question.” And he asked me if I was INTERESTED or I was COMMITTED to achieving great success.
And I didn’t know what the difference was when I was nineteen!
And he said “If you’re interested, you’ll come up with excuses and stories and reasons why you can’t or why you shouldn’t invest in yourself, and why you shouldn’t work on Saturdays and why you shouldn’t come home early from the parties you want to go to at nineteen or twenty years old.“
He said, “But if you’re committed, you’ll set all that aside and you will choose the outcome and do whatever it takes:
- You will learn what you need to learn.
- You will hang out with the people you need to hang out with.
- You will let go of the people you need to let go of.
- You will upgrade your knowledge.
- You will upgrade your skills.
- You will re-train your brain.
- And then you WILL make that a reality.
And I was like, “Wow.”
Glen: Amazing.
[Taking A Moment To Reflect]
So what did YOU take away from that interview?
Were you inspired to think about your own actions and choices and what that says about what you’re truly committed to?
Just take a moment right now and reflect on the choices you have made today.
And ask yourself, “Do my daily actions and choices match up to what I WANT to be committed to?”
If they do match, that’s fantastic… you’re on target! But they don’t match up, that’s great too! Because that’s a great tool for you.
Every day, take a moment to check-in and ask if your activities and choices that day match up with what you are wanting.
It’s a pretty quick and powerful way to identify the changes that you can make that can have the most impact in your life.
