“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” – Aristotle
Everyone has one…. though most people aren’t aware of it.
Do you know what your “personal brand” is?
Branding isn’t just for big companies and famous celebrities – the fact is that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US has a personal brand.
(Pssst! Speaking of branding, we’re gearing up to completely re-brand Abundant Entrepreneur and I could use your help! To see our 5 final logo designs and to vote for your favorite, click right here.)
Your personal brand is a combination of:
1. How you present yourself to the world and
2. How others perceive you
In a nutshell, it’s what other people believe that they can count on you for… and sometimes, we create personal brands that are out of alignment with who we really are without even consciously realizing it.
For example:
If you’re someone who wants to be a support to the people you care about, but you have a habit of showing up super late for meetings or cancelling plans at the last minute…
“Unreliable” may have accidentally become part of your personal brand!
Even though that’s not what you WANT to be known for, through your actions, it’s what you’ve consistently trained people to count on you for.
Want to create and live a purposeful personal brand that’s more in alignment with who you really are?
Here are 3 simple steps to help you:
STEP #1: Get clear on what you stand for
What are your main strengths, skills or talents? What do other people regularly acknowledge or thank you for? What do you want to be known for contributing to the people around you?
Make a list of 3 to 5 qualities you feel you’re here to resonate out to others and the world.
STEP #2: Align your actions with what you stand for
No one is perfect. We all have moments or “off days” where we feel frustrated or negative.
But as much as you can, do your best to speak and act in a way that’s in alignment with what it is that you stand for.
STEP #3: When you get off track, own it
If you stand for being a positive force in the world, yet you find that you’ve been gossiping lately, don’t beat yourself up… don’t beat yourself up, just own it and stop doing it.
You may even want to clean it up by thinking of and sharing 5 things that you like about the person you were gossiping about.
Knowing what you stand for and doing your best to act in alignment with that on a daily basis is the secret to living a purpose-driven life.
And speaking of branding…
